The O(map) A Theory of Creativity by Catherine Barron will be launched in Dungarvan Library on Thursday 6th October 2022 at 6pm.
The author will give a talk on the theory through the 15 diagrams that visually describe the spectrum of creativity, illuminating what it is and how it works.
“Creativity isn’t what you think, it is how you see. The O(map) will change how you see.”
Born in Co. Carlow, Catherine Barron is a visual artist, writer, arts facilitator and creativity researcher, living and working in Dungarvan since 2017. She has received many awards including the Adams and De Veres awards at the RHA annual exhibition, the inaugural Amelia Earhart prize for an Irish female artist (Derry, 2022), and was short listed for the Hennessy portrait prize (now Zurich prize) at the national gallery in 2015. Her work is represented in many public and private collections including the National Portrait Collection (university of Limerick), The E.P.A, the O.P.W. Fingal co. co. collection, the Bank of Ireland, the Department of Education, Carlow Institute of Technology and the Haverty Trust.
Barron explores the human condition through painting, as well as through experimental collaborations designed to awaken realisation and elicit authentic expression by resonant means. Both orientations inform her research into creativity, which she believes to be the least well understood, yet most affecting force in an evolving universe, particularly how it manifests as a spectrum through beings that have conscious agency. She self-published her theory of creativity, the O(map), in 2022, which specifically deals with the problem of defining creativity by recognising and visually describing what it is, and how it works.
The official launch of the book will take place in Dungarvan library on Thursday 6th October at 6pm. For more information please contact Dungarvan Library on 058 21141.
Catherine Barron is represented by the Molesworth Gallery, Dublin, where her next solo exhibition is due to take place in May 2023
