Services to Schools

Through our 12 Library Branches, Waterford Libraries offers a wide range of resources and activities to support and assist Teachers, Schools & Education groups in Waterford City & County.

The dedicated Teacher’s Resource Collection is housed in the Education, Learning & Support Centre at Carrickphierish Library which has over 20,000 items available for use in the classroom.

This includes Class Novels, Big Books, Photocopiable Resources and Reading Schemes (PM, Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cats, The Literacy Tower, Sails)

Teachers & persons working in any educational facility can avail of a special membership which allows multiple items to be borrowed over an extended time (90 days).

Membership can be completed by calling to your local library.

Class Novels can be requested from the Schools Service in Carrickphierish by dropping in to the library, phoning  051 849696 or by emailing: carrickphierishlibrary@waterfordcouncil.ie

Once reserved, your class novel set can be collected from any Waterford Library branch of your choice.

*In order to provide a fair and reliable service to all schools, it is important to borrow and return sets promptly.

The Education, Learning & Support Centre at Carrickphierish Library also offers meeting space facilities for teacher training, service days & workshops with an outside roof terrace.

A private room is also available for one to one sessions and tutorials.

Class visits to branch libraries are welcome. Visits can involve an introduction to the library, reading promotion, storytelling & activities.

Teachers or group leaders should contact the library they want to visit directly.

TTRS – Touch Type Read and Spell is an award winning course that teaches touch-typing skills to help children and adults improve their reading and spelling.

The Multi Sensory approach allows users see the words on screen, hear them spoken aloud and then type the corresponding keys. It is often used by those with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.

TTRS is available from Waterford libraries in 12 week blocks, a teacher or educator can avail of the service for one or more students in their class.

Waterford… Where I Live 
A primary school workbook published by Waterford City Council which captures highlights from the 1,100-year history of the city following its establishment by the Vikings in 914.

Waterford . . . Where I Live is aimed at fifth- and sixth-class pupils and offers an accessible but reliable take on Waterford’s rich history and includes a walking tour route taking in the historic city walls.
