Family History

There are three pieces of information that are vital to locating any information about your family.

  • The name of the family
  • The townland in which they lived
  • The approximate date that they lived there

Because most of the records are organised by townland name without this information it will be extremely difficult to track down your family.

Staff at the Library Service and at the City and County Archive will make the sources they hold available to researchers and provide any assistance that they can but cannot do the research for you.

For some advice on how to approach your family history research please read our publication “Sources for Family History in County Waterford“.

For further guidance, the Library Service provides Family History Clinics at Central Library, Waterford City on:

  • Tuesdays 10am -12noon
  • Wednesdays 3:00pm -4:00pm

To make an appointment please telephone 0761 102975 or fill out the contact form below:

A list of private researchers is also available from the National Archives of Ireland and the National Library of Ireland.
