Immerse yourself in Culture Night 2021 – Bígí linn d’Oíche Chultúir 2021

Celebrating the arts, creativity, cultural diversity, Culture Night 2021 takes place on Friday, September 17th with a full and varied programme showcasing Waterford’s history and culture through music, art and storytelling!

The sixteenth edition of Culture Night continues to promote Ireland’s rich and vibrant culture as an integral part of our everyday lives.

Waterford City and County Council, in association with the Arts Council has programmed a night of culture that is sure to appeal to all.  With all events free of charge, booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

One of the many events taking place in Waterford on Culture Night is free tours of Ireland’s newest museums, the Irish Museum of Time, a fitting home for the finest collection of Irish timepieces in the world and the Irish Silver Museum, which houses one of the largest collections of silver worldwide.

Freestyle Friday at Hanover Street is an initiative headed by Youth Arts Live.  An evening of off-the-bat, spontaneous music and rap, artists will be paired together, none of them having any idea who they will be with! So come along for some free styling shenanigans and a host of local Waterford talent including Izzy Tiernan, David Bejelac, Ash Lawlor and Oran Byrne.

From 5pm to 9pm O’Connell Street will be filled with live music performed by exciting young artists, APM , AKari, B2B, Damo and McCarthy, while live Big Bands will perform in the Viking Triangle from 6pm to 9pm.

The Dún Garbhán le Gaeilge committee is organising Seal le Seanchaí, an on-line evening of story-telling and lore, both old and new, featuring local seanchaí, Séamus Ó Lonáin as master of ceremonies, along with local storytellers Liam Suipéil and Déuglán Turraoin. This bilingual event takes place at 7pm and places must be booked in advance by e-mailing cabrini@glornangael.ie.

In association with Poetry Town, Dungarvan there will be an online broadcast of Áine Uí Fhoghlú’s newly commissioned poem for the town, filmed by Cormorant Films at 6.30pm.  Tannoy Takeover with poets Colette Colfer, Frank Farrelly and Lani O’Hanlon will be taking place in Garvey’s SuperValu from 5.30pm, while outside the Old Market House Arts Centre people can see ‘Culture Night Lights’ a sculptural light installation by students of Ard Scoil na nDéise.

Duo Frizzante is Cathy Desmond and Marian Ingoldsby and they will present a tea time serenade in Tramore, with a selection of popular and nostalgic melodies from across the decades on violin and keyboard at Lafcadio Hearne Japanese Gardens at 3pm and Lower Main Street at 4.30pm.  The selection will include repertoire from Marian’s debut album ‘When Words Fail’.

Join environmental artist Sean Corcoran on Culture Night for a unique experience on The Copper Coast, Nature Immersive at Nightfall. This is an opportunity to challenge your senses and absorb your surroundings as the tide and light shifts around you.

Waterford Healing Arts Trust (WHAT) will celebrate Culture Night 2021 by bringing live music to the grounds of University Hospital Waterford (UHW) between 6pm and 7.30pm.  This special acoustic session will be provided by WHAT’s Healing Sounds team of musicians, Liam Merriman, Eoin O Meachair, Alan Browne, Michelle Haberlin, and Liam Kavanagh.

Bígí linn d’Oíche Chultúir 2021

Beidh Oíche Chultúir ar siúl ar an Aoine, 17 Meán Fómhair, nuair a dhéanfar ceiliúradh ar na healaíona, an chruthaitheacht agus an éagsúlacht chultúrtha le clár iomlán agus éagsúil, a chuirfidh stair agus cultúr Phort Láirge i láthair trí cheol, ealaín agus scéalaíocht!

Seo í an sé bhliain déag d’Oíche Chultúir, a chuireann cultúr saibhir agus spleodrach na hÉireann chun cinn mar chuid dhílis dár saol laethúil.

Tá Comhairle Cathrach agus Contae Phort Láirge, i gcomhar leis an gComhairle Ealaíon, tar éis oíche de chultúr a chur le chéile a mheallfaidh gach duine.  Tá gach rud saor in aisce, mar sin moltar duit áit a chur in áirithe roimh ré ionas nach mbeidh díomá ort.

I measc na n-imeachtaí a bheidh ar siúl i bPort Láirge le linn Oíche Chultúir, beidh camchuairteanna saor in aisce thart ar an músaem úr, an Músaem Ama, áit a bhfuil an bailiúchán is fearr ar domhan de chloig agus d’uaireadóirí Éireannacha, agus ar Mhúsaem Airgid na hÉireann, ina bhfuil ceann des na bailiúcháin is mó d’earraí airgid ar domhan.

Tionscnamh de chuid Youth Arts Live is ea ‘Freestyle Friday’, a bheidh ar siúl ar Shráid Hanover. Tráthnóna de cheol agus rap-cheol ar an bpointe boise, gan choinne a bheidh ann, áit a mbeidh ealaíontóirí ag obair i mbeirteanna, gan aon tuairim acu roimh ré cé leis a mbeidh siad curtha! Mar sin, bígí ann do spraoi saorstíle le scata mór de scoth-oirfidigh an cheantair, ina measc Izzy Tiernan, David Bejelac, Ash Lawlor agus Oran Byrne.
