Waterford Weaves Hope – One Million Stars Exhibition – Ardkeen Library

March 29, 2025 to April 28, 2025

Waterford Weaves Hope Art Exhibition

Exhibiting in Ardkeen Library

From Saturday 29th March – Monday 28th April

Waterford Weaves Hope is a powerful and inspiring exhibition that celebrates community, creativity, and solidarity. It features art created through a collaborative effort, where countless hands have woven together meaningful pieces, each carrying messages of hope, love, and unity.
The journey of Waterford Weaves Hope began in July 2023, when Waterford Volunteer Centre participated in a workshop at the Waterford Gallery of Art, facilitated by Amber Women’s Refuge. During this workshop, participants created 8-point woven stars, each infused with personal messages of light, hope, and solidarity. These stars became part of the Global Inclusive Community Arts Project, One Million Stars to End Violence, which connects communities across Ireland and the world in solidarity against domestic abuse and all forms of violence.
Every star woven in this project reflects the eight principles of healthy love within relationships. The first stars created in Waterford were framed and now hang in the meeting room of the Volunteer Centre, serving as a constant reminder of the mission to spread hope and solidarity.
Since the beginning of this project, the impact has been extraordinary. Over 150 workshops have been held across Waterford City and County, including in schools, community groups, galleries, and the Volunteer Centre. With the dedication of volunteers, an impressive 35,000 stars have been woven to date, and the number continues to grow.
The exhibition showcases the incredible contributions of several community groups:

The Women’s Health & Wellbeing group from St. Bridget’s Family Resource Centre, led by Ann Kavanagh, collaborated with Waterford Men’s Shed to create a “HOPE” wreath made from their woven stars.

The New Communities Network Women’s Shed and Friendship Café ladies sewing group, under the leadership of Caroline O’Toole, Jane Fraher, and Tanya Ashton, crafted a stunning dress symbolizing love and unity.

The Waterford Ukrainian Star Weavers dedicated themselves to attending weekly workshops and weaving over 10,000 stars at home.

Students from Presentation Secondary School and St. Angela’s Secondary School embraced the project by weaving stars that transformed their school grounds and community spaces into beacons of hope.
Local artists also played an instrumental role in this project. Suzanne McCreedy of Conscious Crafting, Magdalena Karol, and Kristiana generously volunteered their time
to create unique art pieces incorporating the woven stars, further elevating the significance of the project.
The Waterford Gallery of Art has supported the project by offering space for weekly workshops and showcasing the Olympic Rings logo made from woven stars during their 2024 exhibition, “Muscles & Mind.”
Waterford Weaves Hope is more than an artistic showcase—it serves as a call to action. The exhibition represents a unified effort to shine a light of hope against violence, promoting solidarity, creativity, and community engagement.
