Award winning Irish Language Poet to speak At Dungarvan Library for Poetry Day Ireland
Waterford Libraries in partnership with Dún Garbhán Le Gaeilge are delighted to welcome
prestigious Irish language poet Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh to Dungarvan Library for an event on
Poetry Day Ireland on 25 th April.
Ailbhe will read from her work and be interviewed on the night by Bróna Coleman from Dún
Garbnán Le Gaeilge and is part of the Writers at Waterford Libraries programme of events
for 2024. A grant from Dún Garbhán Le Gaeilge has enables this high-quality Irish language
author event to take place.
Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh was born in Kerry. She has read at festivals in New York, Paris,
Montréal, Berlin and Ballyferriter.
In 2012 her poem ‘Deireadh na Feide’ won the O’Neill Poetry Prize. ‘Filleadh ar an gCathair’
was chosen as Ireland’s EU Presidency poem in 2013 and was shortlisted in 2015 for RTE’s ‘A
Poem for Ireland’. Coiscéim published her first book Péacadh (2008) and Tost agus
Allagar (2016). The latter won the Michael Hartnett Award in 2019.
A bilingual collection, The Coast Road, was published by Gallery Press, and includes English
translations by thirteen poets. Dánta Andrée Chedid , translations from the French, was
published in 2019 by Cois Life as part of their ‘File ar Fhile’ series.
She is the 2020 recipient of the Lawrence O’Shaughnessy Award. A new collection, Tonn
Teaspaigh agus Dánta Eile , was published by Éabhlóid in November 2022.
The event will be in the Irish language.
This event is free of charge will be held in Dungarvan Library at 7.00 pm on 25 th of April.

Léifidh Ailbhe óna saothar agus cuirfear fé agallamh í ag Bróna Coleman ó Dhún Garbhán le Gaeilge mar chuid den tsraith ocáide do ‘Writers at Waterford Libraries’ i 2024. Is de bharr urraíocht ó Dhún Garbhán le Gaeilge gur féidir leis an ócáid Ghaeilge seo atá ar ardcaighdeán a chur ar siúl.
Rugadh Ailbhe Ní Ghearbhuigh i gContae Chiarraí. Tá sí tar éis léamh ag féilte i Nua Eabhrac, Páras, Montréal, Beirlín agus Baile an Fheirtéaraigh.
I 2012, bhuaigh a dán ‘Deireadh na Feide’ an gradam fílíochta, ‘O’ Neill Poetry Prize’. Roghnaíodh ‘Filleadh ar an gCathair’ mar an Dán Uachtaránacht na hÉireann ar an AE i 2013 agus chuireadh ar an ngearrliosta é i 2015 don ‘ Poem for Ireland’.
Fuair Ailbhe an gradam Lawrence O’ Shaughnessy i 2020. D’fhoilsíodh a cnuasach nua, Teaspaigh agus Dánta Eile, ag Éabhlóid i Mí na Samhna 2022.
