On Sunday 21 March, Europe Direct Waterford, Waterford Libraries and Music Generation Waterford are delighted to contribute to the celebration of Early Music Day 2021, with performances by Jill Devlin on the harp, Kieran Joyce on the uileann pipes and Tiger Lily Keoghan on the bagpipes. This is the first time that traditional Irish music is being included in the programme, and the Waterford contribution is the only traditional Irish music performance.
View the performances on Sunday 21 March online through the Europe Direct Facebook Page.
Early Music Day occurs every year on 21 March to celebrate the birthday of Johann Sebastian Bach. The idea of this type of celebration of early music began in 2013 to act as a focal point for the promotion of historical musical heritage in Europe, but has now grown to a world-wide event.
This year REMA (the representative network for Early Music in Europe), in partnership with the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is co-ordinating a day-long virtual festival made up of contributions by a selection of musicians from around the world. We in Waterford are proud to be a part of this celebration and are looking forward to all the performances, both local and international.
