On Thursday, 15th May, over 100 people attended a vibrant and uplifting event in Central Library to celebrate the “Hello, How Are You?” Mental Health Ireland campaign. This occasion also marked a special celebration for the Bealtaine Festival, welcoming the community into the heart of the library.
The event was hosted by Central Library staff in partnership with Europe Direct Waterford. Thanks to library staff for facilitating another outstanding community gathering. Special thanks also to Waterford Integration Services for bringing members of their groups to enjoy the social interaction and performance.
The Bealtaine Choir delivered an uplifting performance under the expert direction of Anne Woodworth. Siobhán McGuinness of Waterford Libraries gave a heartfelt reading of a poem written by Josie Murphy, a published poet and proud Bealtaine Choir member. Anne Woodworth also spoke about her 30 years of volunteer experience with Samaritans Ireland, highlighting the power of listening, the importance of mental health support, and the value of nurturing both long standing and new friendships.
Attendees enjoyed friendly conversation over tea and sweet treats, reflecting the warm, inclusive spirit of the day while chatting with new people.Events such as this highlight the positive impact of social connection, creativity, and community engagement on mental health and wellbeing. We look forward to many more opportunities to connect, support, and celebrate with our community.
