The Index Gallery, Central Library is delighted to host an exhibition of paintings, by Waterford artist, Tony Cassidy. The exhibition opened on Wednesday 6th March and runs for the month of March, during library opening hours.
Having painted for over sixty years, Tony’s love of art began when Santa gifted him a set of paints at Christmas in early childhood near Clones, Co Monaghan where he was born. Now residing in Waterford for over forty years, his work reflects a deep connection to the southern Irish coastal landscape and seascape.
From his early days with watercolours to later embracing oils and acrylics, Tony’s artistic journey is a testament to his passion and dedication. His main interests lie in capturing landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes, and the charm of old sheds and farm buildings. Influenced by artists like Colley Whisson, Edward Wesson and Christian Arnould, Tony’s work depicts scenes of timeless beauty.
Artistic milestones include being part of the group show at the Exposition Internationale des Artistes des Postes et Telecommunications in Paris (1983), a solo exhibition at The Wine Vault, Waterford (2005), another solo show at Dooley’s Hotel, Waterford (2006), and participation in a group exhibition at Christophe’s Duck Lane Gallery, Dublin (2009).
The public is warmly invited to view Tony Cassidy’s exhibition, a showcase of his work completed both at home and while travelling over recent years. Tony is an Irish artist with over sixty years of experience of depicting landscapes, seascapes, and rustic structures. His work reflects a deep connection to his Irish roots and a profound appreciation for the beauty surrounding him.
