My Open Library was launched in Tramore Library on Friday 2nd February by Waterford City and County Mayor, Cllr. Joe Conway. The new My Open Library service means My Open Library users will be able to use Tramore Library from 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.
Tramore Library has been located on Market Street for the past 40 years is very much the beating heart of the community, thanks to the wonderful staff who always make you feel welcome. Funding for My Open Library was provided by the Department of Community and Rural Development, and Garry McCormack was the architect responsible for the transformation of this popular library to a bight and modern library with a bookable meeting space.
This was a day for many changes as it also marked the retirement of Jane Cantwell, County Librarian and Head of Cultural Services Team from Waterford City and County Council, leaving behind a very different library service under her leadership. Tracy McEneaney, Executive Librarian said, “Jane Cantwell has been our leader, mentor and friend and is responsible for Waterford Libraries being considered one of the best library services in the country, it has been a pleasure to work alongside Jane for the past 22 years.”
As Tramore Library looks forward to many in the community using the My Open Library Service, staff also recognised Mrs. Peggy Halpin, the first ever Librarian in Tramore Library, and who uses the library weekly and is an advocate for the library and would encourage all to join their local library.
