LGMA and Libraries Ireland were awarded 3rd place for their campaign, Your Library – Take a Closer Look in the prestigious IFLA/Press Reader International Marketing Awards 2021 This national campaign promoted Irish public libraries by encouraging everyone to “take a closer look” at the modern and innovative library services on offer. All public libraries were involved in this campaign but Waterford Libraries played a significant role in the South East to make this campaign a success.
Tracy McEneaney, Executive Librarian with Waterford Libraries appeared in the advert for the national campaign and Lucy Aughney, Senior Library Assistant promoted the campaign on social media via Twitter, Instagram and Facebook and through Waterford Libraries and Waterford Council’s social media channels. All staff within the Library Service promoted the events on 29th Feb 2020 which was “The Leap into Libraries” day.
Waterford City & County Librarian, Jane Cantwell said…..
“It is a great honour for Irish Libraries to be awarded 3rd place in this international competition. There were 90 entries from a range of countries all over the world. First place went to an Australian/USA joint initiative with universities in Monash and Penn State and the City Libraries of Jinan (China) took 2nd place with LGMA/Libraries Ireland coming 3rd. Credit is due to Libraries Development and the national team of librarians who worked to create the campaign and to all Irish library staff, including Waterford library staff who promoted it and helped to raise awareness of all the great services in our libraries.”
