Waterford Literature opportunity during EU Presidency

Cultúr 2026 celebrates the wealth of talent among Irish artists working today and aims to share this richness with audiences in Ireland and Europe.

During the 2026 Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU, each county in Ireland has been culturally paired with an EU member state – Waterford is delighted to be linked with Denmark

Waterford City and County Council Arts Office now seeks expressions of interest from writers based in Waterford to produce a literary response to the connection between the rich folklore of both countries and shared Norse roots.

Writers are asked to outline in a short document what subject matter they propose to cover with an overview of what they propose to produce and submit their expression of interest in hard copy only to : EU Presidency Literature Opportunity, c/o Margaret Organ/Arts Officer, Waterford City & County Council, Civic Offices, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford.

The closing date is Friday 10th July 2026 at 12 noon.

Decisions will issue in late July and the selected writers will have up to October 2026 to produce the work.

Three bursaries of €900 each is available for this work which will also have a public facing element in Waterford during the European Year of the Normans in 2027.
