Inviting Knitters and crocheters to pop into a short taster session on ‘Yarning Connections’, a Walton Institute SETU electronic textiles project, funded by Science Foundation Ireland.
All participants involved in this exciting project will learn how to work with conductive yarn and integrate components like LEDs in battery-operated circuits to bring added functionality to conventional knit or crochet.
We are currently seeking 10 knitters and 10 crocheters to participate in a series of free workshops which will run for six weeks from May 2nd to June 6th, every Tuesday morning from 10-1pm at Central Library, Lady Lane, Waterford. In addition to learning about e-textiles, the workshop participants will have the opportunity to experiment with different conductive yarns, and collaboratively experiment with various construction techniques.
Why not drop into the Hub at Central Library anytime between 10-12 noon on Tuesday 18th of April to gauge your interest in participating and try out the materials?
Yarning Connections’, funded by Science Foundation Ireland, aims to engage knitters and crocheters in electronic textiles (e-textiles) and offer an accessible route to yarn crafters to learn about e-textiles. We are inviting yarn craft practitioners from Waterford and the surrounding areas to come together with Walton Institute’s e-textiles lab along with project partners Caroline O’Toole (knitting designer) and Jacqui Kelleher (crochet designer) for this novel collaboration.
Alternatively, to register your interest in participating in this project or for further information, please contact Aileen Drohan directly on 087 2621422.
