Europe Day comes to City Square, Waterford

Europe DayThis Wednesday 9 May is Europe Day! Come and meet the staff of the Waterford Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC) in City Square Shopping Centre who will be setting up their stall from 1:00pm -3:00pm ready to meet members of the public and answer any questions they have on the EU.

The Waterford Europe Direct Information Centre is the local contact for the South-East Region for all EU-related matters. Europe Direct Staff will have information on a wide range of topics from Travelling in Europe, Citizen’s Dialogues to supports for SMEs and entrepreneurs. Passers-by will be able to find out about upcoming events and discover how they can visit the Centre, based in Central Library, Lady Lane to find answers to any questions on their rights as an EU Citizen.

The Waterford Europe Direct Information Centre based in Central Library, Lady Lane, Waterford, is one of a network of local contact points that serve as the direct link between the public and the EU Institutions. The centre offers information on all sorts of subjects related to the EU including your rights and opportunities as an EU citizen. The Centre provides direct responses to general inquiries and for more detailed questions, signpost enquires to the best source of information and advice at local, regional, national and EU levels.

Europe Day, held on 9 May every year, celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical ‘Schuman Declaration‘. At a speech in Paris in 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe’s nations unthinkable.
